Philippines Women's Team Unveils Squad for Historic Women's World Cup Appearance

The Philippines women's team has made history by qualifying for the Women's World Cup for the first time, and the Philippine Women's Football Federation has now announced the 23-player roster for the upcoming tournament. The squad features a strong international presence, with 18 players currently plying their trade abroad.

Three players from the United States have been included in the squad: Isabella Flanigan (West Virginia Mountaineers), Kaiya Jota (Stanford Cardinal), and Alicia Barker (Pacific Northwest). The team also boasts the talents of Reina Bonta from Brazil's Santos, as well as seven players based in Australia, namely Kiara Fontanilla, Angela Beard, Malea Cesar, Anicka Castaneda, Jaclyn Sawicki, Sarina Bolden, and Carleigh Frilles.

One standout player chosen by coach Alen Stajcic is goalkeeper Olivia McDaniel. Her heroic performance in the penalty shootout against Chinese Taipei during the quarterfinals of the 2022 Women's Asian Cup, where she saved two crucial penalties, played a significant role in securing the Philippines' qualification for the World Cup.
