The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has confirmed the schedule for the national team's upcoming friendly match during the FIFA Days in June. Following their encounter with Hong Kong (China) on June 15 at Lach Tray Stadium in Hai Phong, the Vietnamese team will face off against Syria on June 20 at Thien Truong Stadium in Nam Dinh. The specific match time and ticket information are yet to be announced by the VFF.
The forthcoming match against Syria holds great anticipation for the Vietnamese team, as they are set to face a highly regarded opponent. Ranked 90th in the world, Syria holds a slight advantage over Vietnam, who currently sits at 95th in the FIFA World Rankings. Syria has also progressed to the third qualifying round of the 2022 World Cup and secured six points, in addition to qualifying for the 2023 Asian Cup finals scheduled for early next year.
Leading the Syrian team is experienced coach Hector Cuper, who boasts an impressive resume, having previously managed Inter Milan and guided Valencia to the runner-up position in the UEFA Champions League in the 1999/00 and 2000/01 seasons. The Syrian team features several players plying their trade in Europe, including Abdul Weiss, Oliver Kawo, Amma Ramadan, and Simon Amin.
In their previous FIFA Days friendly matches held in March, Syria defeated Thailand 3-1 but suffered a narrow 0-1 loss to Bahrain. The upcoming match against Vietnam is expected to serve as a challenging test for coach Philippe Troussier and his new era with the national team.
Following their participation in the 32nd SEA Games, Coach Troussier and his team have been taking a well-deserved rest while utilizing the ongoing matches in the V.League and First Division to their advantage. The coach is set to finalize the team selection and commence the training camp from June 7 onwards, gearing up for the upcoming friendly against Syria.
Vietnamese football fans eagerly await the clash between Vietnam and Syria, hoping to witness an exciting and competitive encounter as the national team continues its preparations for future international competitions.
