In a gripping 1/8 round encounter of the 2023 National Cup on July 6, Dang Van Lam and Ha Duc Chinh showcased their skills and played pivotal roles in Binh Dinh FC's triumph over Quang Nam in a penalty shootout.
The match initially ended in a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes of intense play, leading to a thrilling shootout. In the 90+1 minute, goalkeeper Dang Van Lam was brought on to face the penalties. Displaying his expertise, Van Lam made impressive saves against Nguyen Dinh Bac and Tran Ngoc Hiep. His heroics contributed to Binh Dinh FC's 6-5 victory in the shootout.
Ha Duc Chinh also left a lasting impression in the game. He scored the equalizer for Binh Dinh in the second half and confidently converted his penalty kick during the shootout.
In the first half, coach Nguyen Duc Thang opted to field several reserve players, including Tran Dinh Minh Hoang, Nguyen Duc Huu, and Phan Ngoc Tin. Consequently, Binh Dinh FC struggled against the formidable Quang Nam team, as they were unable to utilize their foreign players and found themselves trailing.
Quang Nam took an early lead in the 23rd minute through a corner kick that was expertly finished by young center-back Le Van Hung.
However, coach Nguyen Duc Thang made tactical adjustments during the game, leading to an improved performance from the Binh Dinh side. They launched relentless attacks down the left wing and, in the 70th minute, Ha Duc Chinh skillfully struck the ball with the outside of his foot from a precise cross by Do Thanh Thinh, securing the equalizer for the home team.
Binh Dinh Club created several other dangerous scoring opportunities but were thwarted by the focused defensive efforts of Quang Nam. After the full 90 minutes, the match concluded with a 1-1 draw, and Binh Dinh emerged victorious in the subsequent penalty shootout.
Reflecting on the match, coach Nguyen Duc Thang stated, "In the first half, I fielded four young players, which impacted our performance. However, our goal is to develop the next generation of players, and Quang Nam was a good opponent for them to gain experience. We had to make adjustments in the second half, particularly with two players making their debut, which affected our mindset."
The victory propels Binh Dinh FC into the next phase of the competition, while Quang Nam will now focus on their future endeavors.
