The Vietnam Young Talent Support Fund, in collaboration with Tien Phong Newspaper, awarded a total of VND 480 million to the Vietnamese athletics team in recognition of their outstanding performance at the 32nd SEA Games. The athletes who won medals received VND 380 million, while the coaching staff received VND 100 million.
The reward distribution was based on the medal rankings, with gold medalists receiving VND 10 million, silver medalists receiving VND 7 million, and bronze medalists receiving VND 5 million. The ceremony was attended by athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh, who expressed her gratitude to the athletics leaders and the Vietnam Young Talent Support Fund for their continuous support. She pledged to continue training with her teammates to achieve more success in upcoming tournaments.
During the 32nd SEA Games, the Vietnamese athletics team consisted of 75 members who participated in 38 out of 47 events. Their initial target was to win between 14 and 18 gold medals. After six days of intense competition, the team secured a total of 40 medals, including 12 gold medals, 20 silver medals, and 8 bronze medals. Notably, Nguyen Thi Oanh contributed significantly to the team's success by winning four gold medals in the 1,500m, 5,000m, 10,000m, and 3,000m obstacle course events.
Although the team did not meet its target, they made remarkable achievements, with Nguyen Thi Oanh's exceptional performance in winning two consecutive gold medals within a span of just over 30 minutes capturing attention.
In addition to the prize money from the Vietnam Young Talent Support Fund, the athletics team also received approximately VND 2.8 billion from the government and over VND 1 billion from sponsors. Nguyen Thi Oanh was recognized as the most awarded athlete, receiving VND 180 million from the sports industry for her four gold medals and more than VND 400 million from sponsors. As for material rewards, she was gifted a car and an apartment by Manh Thuong Quan.
