On the afternoon of June 29, Nam Dinh Club held a face-to-face meeting with player Nguyen Trong Dai to resolve the contract liquidation procedure ahead of time. Trong Dai, who joined Nam Dinh Club only six months ago under coach Vu Hong Viet, agreed not to receive compensation for three months' salary.
The reason for the contract termination is said to be Trong Dai's violation of discipline during a game, which goes against the terms of the contract signed between the player and the club at the beginning of the season.
Nam Dinh Club will now proceed with the necessary steps to liquidate the contract, allowing Trong Dai to find a new team. He will be available as a free agent, but time is limited as the transfer market will close at the end of July 3.
Trong Dai is a well-known name among football fans. He came through the ranks of Viettel Club and represented Vietnam at the 2017 U20 World Cup under coach Hoang Anh Tuan and the 2018 Asian U23 Championship under coach Park Hang-seo. He unexpectedly left Viettel and joined Ha Tinh Club in the middle of the 2022 season before moving to Nam Dinh at the start of the 2023 season, where he was given an opportunity by coach Vu Hong Viet.
On June 7, Nam Dinh Club's management board recommended not using Trong Dai due to "unsatisfactory performance and repeated violations of club rules." The club wanted to terminate the contract with the player before June 30. Trong Dai and his representative requested compensation for three months' salary as part of the contract.
On June 23, Nam Dinh Club responded to Trong Dai's request by refusing to pay the three months' salary. Since the two parties were still in negotiations, Trong Dai did not receive his salary for the month of May. Nam Dinh Club also confirmed that the player had stopped training and participating in team activities since June 7.
During his six-month stint at Thien Truong Stadium, Trong Dai played six matches, including four as a starter, but failed to score any goals. Nam Dinh Club is currently in contention for a spot in the top eight of the V.League 2023, with 16 points from 12 rounds, aiming to avoid relegation.
